Partially integrated sun protection heroal VS Z CS

Verl, September 2024. With the new sun protection system heroal VS Z CS, the aluminium systems supplier heroal has developed an effective solution for shading post-transom curtain walls that integrates particularly harmoniously into the curtain wall and is easy to work with.

Harmonious sun protection integration in post-transom curtain walls

When planning buildings, architects and planners regularly find themselves in a field of tension: the solutions considered should meet visual requirements, but at the same time be highly functional. This challenge also arises when planning curtain walls equipped with sun protection.

To realise generous curtain walls, heroal has developed the versatile curtain wall system heroal C 50. Made of high-quality, sturdy aluminium and equipped with components such as foam-filled insulators or a continuous sealant, heroal C 50 impresses with its durability, efficient processing and heat-insulating properties with values up to Uf = 1.2 W/m²K. In addition, optimal ventilation and drainage are ensured by a well-thought-out construction that is invisibly integrated into the facade profiles.

New solution for sun protection integration

To prevent interior rooms from overheating despite large glass facades, heroal offers the external zip screen system heroal VS Z CS for effective sun and heat protection. Thanks to stable zip technology, the system is ball-proof certified – even with large shading surfaces of up to 6 m in width and 18 m². heroal VS Z CS enables seamless partial integration of the sun protection into the heroal C 50 aluminium curtain wall system and the post-transom curtain wall systems of other manufacturers. The newly developed integration profile for the heroal GR 25 guide rail is inserted into the curtain wall system with the help of a newly developed sun protection bolt. Unlike classic façade integration with crossbars, the heroal VS Z CS sun protection is particularly close to the curtain wall element. This ensures a high wind stability of up to 145 km/h, because the wind can hardly get behind the sun protection. At the same time, the sun protection is integrated particularly discreetly: When the heroal VS Z CS sun protection system is fully raised, it is not possible to see that the façade profiles are equipped with sun protection. Even when lowered, the new solution is particularly aesthetic, because with a face width of 25 mm, using two heroal GR 25 guide rails exactly matches the face width of the heroal C 50 curtain wall system at 50 mm. Since heroal GR 25 can be used over the entire length of the curtain wall profile, it is also possible to shade curtain walls up to 5 m in height with the partially integrated heroal VS Z CS.

Flexibility and economy

In contrast to comparable systems, the heroal C 50 curtain wall system has a high degree of prefabrication with pre-punching and pre-drilling as well as well-thought-out construction details. This makes its production fast and efficient. During processing by the metal fabricator, heroal C 50 is already equipped with the integration profile so that the building facade can also be retrofitted with the heroal VS Z CS sun protection system if required. In addition, curtain wall builders and sun protection fitters can work independently of each other, which increases flexibility during the course of the project. There is also no need for a separate static calculation.

When several sun protection elements are installed next to each other on the curtain wall, heroal VS Z CS shows its outstanding advantages in installation: each individual element can be optimally aligned on the curtain wall due to the integrated lateral and depth adjustment, because the sun protection can be adjusted three-dimensionally and absorbs or compensates for construction tolerances.
